auto-fill

to my steam boiler stayed on last night to the point it filled the boiler past the sight tube. I turned it off because I heard it running too long. Took the excess water off by means of the skimmer valve and the lower boiler drain valve. The boiler is a Weil-McLain about 10 years old with a low water cut-off and auto fill control. Is there some preventive service I should be doing for this water set-up? I currently skim and drain the boiler once a month to check the low water cut-off operation but how do you check the fill? Thanks Herb

Did you
by chance lose power last night?
I have seen situations where this was the cause.(Assuming the LWCO is a "probe" type.)
For the life of me I cannot recall the specific model that this was an issue with.
Maybe one of the other wallies remembers.
