Craig,
Sounds like you are on the right track. You can use the "find a contractor" or if you want a little personal attention e-mail me...I can either stop out or recommend a contractor locally. I do a lot of business with Mike Ackmann of New Century Comfort Systems...he would be great for this job.

Pumping Away
I just read Pumping Away. Wow! Excellent book. I am now convinced my Mom's heating problems can be fixed. I hope this group will help me determine what needs to be done. Don't worry, I'm not goig to do it myself. I just want to know what to do and why it should be done. After all, it wasn't done right the first time. I'll use the "Find a Contractor" feature when I'm ready for the work.
My mom has a forced, diverter tee, direct return hot water system in a two story house w/basement. It's a single zone. It has a steel compression tank. The original boiler was replaced about 12 years ago. Circulator is on the return side. The two bottom connected, cast iron radiaotrs on the second floor do not heat up.
I have some pictures of the boiler and piping I need to scan. The next thing I think I need to do is calculate the resistance and radiator load on each "rung" of the system.
By the way, my Mom lives near Chicago about 30 minutes from Wetstock II. How about a field trip? Call it a wet-lab. :-)

Say Craig .....
I'm about an hour or so west of Chicago metro, Maybe I can be or service. Your system tends to one of the worst to trap air....changing to pumping away will make a huge difference.
