Found this small room in a 100 year old apartment house. Castiron door foot and a half wide by two and a half tall. Room is 3 feet by 6 ft. long about 4ft tall.No other opening or chutes. The ceiling is covered with radiators with a tin plate above that.No sign of coal(would be a **** if it was for that),10 ft from boiler in a different room,What was it for? space above it is the stairwell(radiant?).But why the room? Has a Richardson casting on the door. Thanks Dave, the photo is a upshot of the ceiling.

Could it be
a fresh air room (with heater)? You may not be able to see the openings because of the baffles.Retired and loving it.0 -
but...
why would there be a door? And a small one at that,I'll snoop with my camera the next slow day I get.thanks Dan ,Dave0 -
Possibly
an intake chamber for a large indirect-heating setup? What's above this mystery Richardson installation?
