A Request for Support

Dear WetHeads,
Dan Holohan has been my favorite Web-site-development client and friend of mine for several years, and hes encouraged me to reach out to you here for my cause. For that Im grateful, so here goes;
Last year I completed my first Olympic-length Triathlon. The feeling of accomplishment and exhilaration crossing the finish line are difficult to describe, but a feeling I strive to experience again...This year I will! But the feeling will be so much sweeter!
On May 18, 2003, I will be completing a 100 mile bike ride from Babylon to Montauk as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Team in Training" to raise funds to help find a cure for leukemia and its related cancers.
With me I will carry in my heart anyone that you or I know who has been touched by this disease. Leukemia is the #1 killer of children ages 2-14, and strikes ten times as many adults than children. But, there is hope! Funding for leukemia research has allowed the survival rate to raise from only 4% in 1960 to where it is today: 40% for adults and 78% for children. Furthermore, the treatments for many other forms of cancer also stemmed from leukemia research.
My personal goal is to raise $5,400 by April 1, 2003, and not only complete the Montauk Century Ride, but also complete The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Team in Training" Triathlon in TOBAY Beach, Long Island on August 17, 2003.
In order to reach these goals, I will need your support. No amount is too small (or too large!). Each dollar brings us that much closer to a cure and a 100% survival rate.
When I cross the finish line(s), I will know that the physical and emotional strain I endure to get there pales in comparison to what anyone with leukemia faces in their daily and lifelong struggles. Any courage or determination I have in taking on this challenge does not even come close to that which cancer patients must possess. At least when I have completed these endurance races, I can say "Its over with. I survived." I hope that with your help, we will be able to give someone else the chance to say the same.
I hope you will support this endeavor. Together, we can make it happen!
Thanks to everyone for your support! Thanks again to Dan to allow me to bring this message to you here. Hes the best!
Best to Everyone,
Lisa

Lisa's ride
You all know how I feel about this sort of thing and I think what Lisa is doing is wonderful. We've sent her a check.
In case you don't knonw, Lisa is the straw that stirs the drink that we call HeatingHelp.com (and the Wall, of course). I would personally appreciate it if you could make a donation to this worthy cause.
We'll have a 50/50 raffle at Wetstock 2 in Chicago, as we did in Marlborough. Let's use the money we raise there to help her achieve her goal.
You never stand so tall as when you stoop to help a child.
Thanks for your consideration.Retired and loving it.0 -

As a few of you may know, I have a very close relationship with a family member and Lymphoma. Without going into details I will simply say that this disease does not stay on the "radar screen" of the NCI (Nat'l Cancer Institue) IMHO because it is not as "popular" as, say, breast cancer. Taking nothing away from ANY cancer and the efforts to eradicate this horrible disease, this particular one (Lymphoma) is among the very few that is still increasing in the number of deaths. I may be wrong, but that's what I was told at the annual Lymphoma Research Foundation Conference in 2001 (missed last year because it was in L.A.)
Lisa, you are a wonderful person for doing this; in addition to what Dan and Alan said...you are even more beautiful on the inside. And my brother is (also) very available :-)
THANK YOU, and take care, PJO0 -

Thank you, Lisa!
My 55 year old brother has a rare form of leukemia, Philadelphia syndrome, it was just recently isolated or discovered. It mutates red blood cells as they are formed in the bone marrow, and his body sees them as invading microbes, and his own white blood cells attacks them.
For a successful bone marrow transplant, there are six blood-matching factors they look for. Both of my other brothers only matched four. By the grace of God, I match all six, should a transplant ever become necessary.
Unfortunately, the odds of survival for bone marrow transplant are frighteningly not very high!
Thanks to research like the kind you're supporting, new drugs and treatments have been developed that weren't available even a couple years ago! Right now he's taking newly developed drugs and is in remission and doing fine. This might not have been possible even three years ago!
I'm in for a hundred bucks. If you're short at crunch time, let me know!
And from my heart... Thank you!0 -
Count me in too...
I'll mail it out tomorrow...it's for a former co-worker who just was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma. Thanks for what you are doing.0 -
Overwhelmed!
I'm saddened to hear that many of you have been affected in some way by these blood related cancers. Since I've begin my fundraising efforts, I've been amazed about how many colleagues and friends whose lives have been touched in some way...but, that's why we're doing this work---for all those who need effective therapies and of course, the cure(s).
Thank you to all of you Wet Heads who have been so responsive in helping me, and ultimately the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Team in Training" to raise these funds to find a cure. And a big hug to my friend Dan for allowing me to use this great forum to reach out to so many caring people.
I'll keep you posted on my progress! We're off to a great start!!
Best,

A challange for all wet heads
Heres an opportunity to help Lisa support the "The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society" and get something out of it yourself (besides the satisfaction of helping out a good cause)
Danfoss will donate a ZCP panel to be auctioned off on this site. All proceeds will go to the "The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through Lisa.
Heres the spec. Danfoss Model ZCP3TNNM13, single outlet panel rated at 30 mbh, cw with MTD stat & floor sensor, bronze circulator, purge timer , auxiliary boiler contact and thermometer. All packaged in an 14X11x10 enclosure.
E mail all bids to bill_willemsen@danfoss.com. I will post the high bid on the wall every day. Bidding starts now and ends at midnight (Eastern Std. Time) Friday Feb.14 (dont even think about giving it to your wife as a Valentines Day present)
Danfoss will arrange delivery to your business at No Charge. Rememer, e mail only, in case of a tie, first bid received wins. Have some fun with this and lets give Lisa a boost.
Just in case you havent seen enough ZCPs on the wall, a jpg. Of the unit is attached

Just gettin' things rollin' again...C'MON WALLIES!
Even if you can't beat my bid for the Danfoss ZCP, at least throw a few bucks to Lisa....
As she said, there are more than a few of you who know someone with one of these dreaded diseases. There are 36 different types of Lymphoma alone.
Who's going to step up to the plate next?
Take Care, PJO0
