Gas Fireplace in basement: another zone?

Hi all. I'm new to this forum, but I have a couple questions:
I am finishing my basement (approx 1100 sq ft) in my ranch home, and will be adding a gas fireplace in the new living room in the basement. I have central air also.
What would be the best thing for me to do - just add more vents to the existing ductwork in the basement, or install a dual-zone system, or is there something else I could do? Budget is a concern, but so it doing the most cost-effective thing in the long run.
Noone is home during the day, (just the dog upstairs) so it makes sense to not have the basement heated or cooled during the day, if that's possible.
Thanks in advance!
