    Radiant Heat Training

What do you guys think the best training is to learn to control radiant systems, and some of the different piping options? I have an extensive heating background but most training I have recieved seems to just give general knowledge and does not dive deep enough into this subject. I also am finding quite a few fakers around and know of many poor instalations in my area and I want to learn the right way from a real expert. I am in the New England area and thank you in advance for any help.

I am also from New England and like you I have seen dozens of poor installations. I have been to pretty much all the radiant mfgs's training and to be honest don't waste your time. While they all put on very good schools they all are very basic. They tend to lead you to their way of doing things vs best application for the job. Over the years I have found that ultimately your heat source will dictate your piping and control strategy. That each radiant mfg has something to offer and a good designer/installer will take a little from each an ultimatley provide a overall radiant system that fits their application. Don't get caught up into one line of product.

Now if you want a real good school take no further look than in your own backyard. Viessmann in Warwick, RI.

I possibly have less experience than most of the guys here, but I have been to Wirsbo's school, and they are very informative, not to mention entertaining.
But my best advice is to buy a few hundred dollars worth of Dan's books, and read them until you "own" everything in them.
Next, spend some time on the wall every day as your continuing education.
Having said all that, I'm sure seminars or box courses such as Hot Rod mentioned are worth their weight in gold.
Proverbs says there is, "safety in a multitude of counselors".

I have been to several homeshows recently to promote Hydronic Radiant Heating, and I too have heard many horror stories of things not done right. Usually, they bought everything off the internet or out of some guy's garage and had no real heat loss calculation or system design.

Lots of farmers will tell me how they "put that in their hog-barn years ago". I jokingly ask them what kind of guy would provide better comfort for his hogs than for his wife and kids? Kevin
