high efficiency boilers for apt bldgs?

budget is an issue, consider installing a condensing boiler sized to handle the load when the system is in condensing range and keep the existing boiler or install a second cast iron boiler to handle the load when it is out of condensing range and you won't attain the highest efficiency from the condensing boiler anyway.

As far as 10 boilers... redundancy is one thing but if you can do it with 2 and they are fully modulating it makes much more economic and maintenance sense.

high efficiency boilers for apt bldgs?

we have existing 2 boilers at 2.5mil each.were replacing for efficiency .say we need 4mil btu total and we put in 10 munchin 199(50% capacity)or maybe even if we only need 2mil
but want to keep 1 cast iron for backup.

so we have 10 m199 with builtin reset and 1 big cast iron for backup or design conditions.(all p/secondary)

has any body done this and or how would you.

assume tekmar 261 where would you put boiler sensor?
how would you assure that the castiron would only come on when the main pipe to the apts had a temp short fall based on reset temps.

p.s. the munch senses off its individule respective supply and return , the tek senses off of the where ?

i know veismann can do this but how with munchkins

lets assume for the moment that our concern is not low water temp protection for the old cast iron boiler. merely to bring the castiron on and off smoothly only when the munchs btu falls short.

    10 boilers?

...will make some vendor happy, but the maintenance, even on "maintenance-free" equipment will take up plenty of some building engineer's time......look at aerco's benchmark boiler....2milllion btu, 96% claimed efficiency 15:1 turndown etc .... http://www.aerco.com/bench.htm

....buy 2 boiler at 2 million btu apiece, if you really want to keep the old boiler....or just get 3 aerco's

    I'd recommend

2- Viessmann Vertomat boilers, staged and fully modulating burners, gas or oil. If designed correctly, these boilers will last many years with min. maintainence. The controls are easy to install and set up. Viessmann assists with the design and startup. It doesn't get any better.

    Vertomat

    Careful

Vertomat is gas and propane only. No oil.
