Eating up the education

Alan, I'm just wondering and trying to learn at the same time. So I have a question. I'm sure that most of that was caused by a low stack temp and possible an inadequate vent system.

But I noticed in one of the photos (MVC-003F.JPG) There was no drip leg at the gas valve. Is it possible that this contributed to adding moister through the combustion process increasing the amount condensation? Remember what I know about gas you could fit in a thimble But I love learning! Thanks

Lost this job a few years ago low bid apparently didnt think a liner was needed.

Pacific Gas and Electric

is our local gas supplier and they guarantee delivery of natural gas that is moisture free.

This job was really an anomaly 'cause I've never seen a boiler condense this badly.

Any idea...

what the culprit was on that little Lochinvar? I sure don't like the flue reducer - that's a no-no in my book.

We did a couple of jobs with oversized boilers and had real condensation problems in outside exposed chimneys. One had moisture just oozing out of the brick. On both, a flexi liner solved the problem. Getting a 6" liner down a 6 1/2 x 10 tile liner is murder though!
