2-pipe steam with air vents

A question out of curiosity. I've read Dan's books, and he describes 2-pipe systems with steam traps. My home has both one and two-pipe radiators, and the two-piper's have air vents on them, not steam traps. Is this unusual? They appear to work perfectly well.

Obviously my posting didn't get through. It's a question out of curiosity: I have a one and two-pipe system, about 1/3 of the radiators have two-pipes. But they don't have steam traps on them, as Dan has described in his books, but they have air vents. Is this unusual? They appear to work fine.

    unusual

and very old. I'll bet each two-pipe radiator drains to a wet return.
    Retired and loving it.
