Copper pipe expansion

should be done by a professional well versed in steam piping. That he would even consider using copper in the system at all is suspect, that he would use it on the live portion of the system is a real warning flag. Get a second opinion from a person experienced with steam! There may be a professional on this site that works in your area. Try the "find a contractor" option list on the program.

copper pipe expansion
In order to hane more room in his basement, my brother-in-law wants to raise and push back the steam loop on his boiler. It currently runs around the top of his basement, to feed the raidiators on the 1st. and 2nd. floors. Total length of loop is about 90'. This is a one pipe system.
A plumber gave him an estimate, replacing the line with copper pipe (same diameter) when he relocates it. Being this is a steam system, wouldn't the copper expand, and make for a noisey system? Or should I just keep my opinons to myself?0
