Noisy Baseboard Heat

My steam baseboard system is pretty noisy, it creeks, pops and clangs all night. Is this a symptom of something? How can I fix it or make it better?

Steam Base Board
If you are talking about 3/4" copper finned base board convectors you will have all the creakig and groaning forever.
This type of heating element was made for use on hot water heating.
What you hear are the sounds of the copper and sheet metal expanding & contracting.
If you want fin tube convectors you will need replace them with 1 1/4" steel pipe fin tube convectors. These units including the cabinet are about 5 1/2" deep.
A good manufacturer is Slant Fin. You will find them on this web site from time to time.
