hOW TO ADD ANTI OXIDENT TO A FULL SYSTEM??

iTS 10 DEGREES, ALL IS WELL, BUT hOW DO i ADD THE, OVERLOOKED, PINT OR SO OF ANTIOXIDATION TREATMENT TO MY HYDRONIC SYSTEM? Can I fit a litttle hose to a top radiator bleeder fitting, and put the other end in the pint can, let my wife hold that, and then trot to the basement and drain a like amount from the boiler in the basement?? Turning the system off of course. It sems as if that would draw it in.I do have a couple of drain cocks on low points in the basement, but cannot see how to force fluid in there at that level, lacking a pump device( if there is one.).

Having followed Dan's advice on instaling a purge valve and on filling the system, I could not see then how to add antioxident at the same time I was flushing air out like crazy, and closing one zone valve and opening the next,, and then the next, etc. like a mad scientist in a submarine. joe ( okay, so that was a mixed metaphor)

    Special pump

A special pump, like the Silve King force pump, is used to pump in chemicals while the system is under pressure. It's usually not done by the homeowner. Aside from the cost of the pump, pressure settings must be adjusted as the force pump will increase the system pressure and tends to blow off the pressure relief valve. It's easy to introduce air to the system as well, during the process, and the air should be purged accordingly.

    Transfer pump

They sell regular transfer pumps (not the cheap one that goes on a drill)They cost around $100 or maybe you could borrow one from someone. Attach the discharge side of the pump to the purge setup and put the suction hose in a 5gallon bucket, drain some of the system water into the 5gallon bucket(Through the pump and obviously do not turn on pump yet). Be carefull not to take all the pressure off the system leave 5 or so psi in it. By doing this you purged and primed the pump.Making sure that the suction hose never comes out of the water add your chemical to bucket. Plug in pump and open purge valve at same time. make sure you don't pump all the liquid from the bucket because you don't want to introduce air. Fitting the pump with two washing machine hoses usually works great. Make sure you run plenty of fresh water through the pump afterwards. Good luck

    Pumping in

Here are some options. Small boosters chemical quantities I inject with the Silver King hand pump. For power flush or large glycol systems I use one of the electric pumps.

Be careful, some of the chemicals can be tough on your skin! Also hot boiler water can flush backwards and burn!

It may be a job best left to a pro with the proper equipment and experience.
