We recently replaced a steam boiler with a peerless wbv-o4 with a cyclegaurd lwco. The boiler was sized to the load and piped per mfg. What we ran into was the system wouldn't heat using the cycleguard. During the periodic shutdown the steam pressure would drop off and the boiler would start all over again trying to build up some steam. I chnged to a regular hydrolevel non-cycling lwco and the system is fine. This is a 1-pipe system on a single story with only 6 radiators. My question is why does this occur? we've used the cycleguard on several other jobs and it does a great job.

Why is the pressure
dropping so much during the Cycleguard tripping?
Are the pipes insulated?
Are any vents leaking?
Do the radiator shutoff valve stems need repacking?
All of these can contribute to rapid pressure drop on shutdown. Sounds like the Cycleguard is OK and the problem is in the system somewhere.

running out of steam
there is a leak on the supply. three dresser couplings were installed(by building owner) to move a radiator. I know this is no-good and it will be changed. I suppose that the old boiler heated ok because it wasn't cycling and could overcome this problem. The leak could have caused the previous boilers demise but there were several problems that we've already repaired such as unlined/backed up chimney, no main vents, and a leaky wet return. I will advise the owner of the urgency of this as well. Thanks for the advice, happy holidays Todd.0
