    honeywell valve sticking

hiya it sounds as though the syncro motor is holding it up,if you remove it will the valve then close ok,if you change the syncro motor it will most proberly be fine, have you checked the gears on the head are they all ok,if you remove the head you will be able to tell if you can remove it ,will have a small dimple on the silver cover ,if so remove the power head use a pair of pliers and carefully see if the shaft turns about a 1/4 turn,if it does you know it's the head, put a small amonut of grease as well on the spindle then you should be able to use your fingers to move the spindle.

see how you make out and hope that this may help,if i can help any more please do not hesitate to contact me.

    all the best

  • Just spray a little

WD 40 on the gears and they will free up. This is even a good idea on new valves.

  • thats okay

i get ribbed about keeping a can of crisco on the truck. i dont know what other plumbers use to grease potable water valve parts but i dont like the idea of drinking roller bearing grease.

    got

antifreeze in the system? If not inhibited, it will wreak havoc with the ZV shaft seal and make it sticky, although at 1 yr old this may be hard to imagine..

    Underpowered valves

How are you powering these zone valves? I like to use the zone control panels so you know they are wired right and getting the proper rated voltage.
  • Zone valve voltage

    Todd,
I had a plumber do some work to the boiler, replaced the white/rogers zone valves with the Honeywells. He did check to see if the transformer on the boiler was sized enough to handle the new valves. The vale hanging up is the last one in the series. Proper voltage I think would be a good thing to check out and skip the crisco.

    Thanks

    Problem could be

inside the valve body also. Maybe some junk caught on the ball? Teflon tape or system crud? You will need to isolate or drain down to get this far into 'er

Fred, you said the valve is sticking in the open position correct? If so then it shouldn't be a power problem since the valve is a power to open and spring closed valve. If the valve is at or less than a year old, why don't you replace it under on year parts warranty and be done with it so it dosn't haunt you down the road. That's what I would do.
