Shop Vac for Soot

Hello,
I once saw some oldtimers with what they called a "Sootvac". I need something like that to clean a gass fireplace. Oldtimers were useing it to clean oil furnaces.
Any ideas/

    Sootmaster....

Sid Harvey sells one by them with their own name on it .
Don't settle for anything less . Even commercial wet-vacs don't hold up to fine soot . The Sootmaster was made for just this purpose .Don't chance it . Chris

It really is a good piece of equipment considering the job it does.

Don't use a regular vac EVER. I was cleaning my boiler one night and was too lazy to go to the truck so i used my "shop vac" BIG MISTAKE, after i finished and looked up i couldn't see 2' in front of my face.BAD SCENE house full of soot and an IRATE wife.

    Shop vac will work....

however you need to take some extra time to prepare it!!!
Get the paper filters to put over the felt filter AND
get the best paper bags and carefully install them in the bucket. With this extra filtration you will have no problem
    with soot.
This is not to say that the sootmaster isn't a good unit....
just that a good job can be done with a regular unit and some planning and extra care.
