Customer calls and say that he went to bed only to awake next morning with a very cold home.
He heads down to the basement walks in the boiler room and the boiler is on and running.
Gets home from work and house is cold again.
He heads down to the basement walks in the boiler room and the boiler is on and running.
Spends some time downstairs doing laundry whiole watching the boiler purr away.
Goes back to bed only to wake up with a very cold house again.
Can't get the original installer's name from his builder so he calls this evening. New install - not a bad instal to boot.
Arrive to find boiler purring away making heat. Go through every single troubleshooting idea I can think of. Checked for loose wires everything. Watched the boiler come on and off - reach limit etc.
I asked if the breaker tripped and he said no. I finally check the breaker and find it labeled "boiler". For the hell of it I flip the breaker and find myself in total darkness with no heat. I go to the basement light switch - and sure enough ........
Boiler was wired in with the basement switch.
It was a new one to me.

Hey Mark Hunt, did'nt that happen to you once ?
Man that could have been a tough one to check, good on ya.
Then again, I guess the boiler was a little cold when you checked it huh ? Talk about a short cycle.

that's a switch
I used to work for a company that installed plbg & heating in large apartment complexes. There was one builder who demanded the furnace disconnect be a toggle switch located next to the door of the furnace room , right next to the light switch , you could not tell them apart , we labeled them , but it did not matter , the only way we found to control it was to get into their pocket0
