Dectron pool heater/climate control system.

Dectron offers several different sizes of unit, but I am not aware that they customize anything for a particular application.
My experience is that the heat recovery heat exchanger dumps more heat in the pool than the pool needs. The pool loses heat due to evaporation. The heat exchanger gives that heat back, plus the sensible heat gain of the space plus the compressor heat. Normally, a second source of pool heat is not necessary; however,
I suspect the separate hot water heat exchanger is to get the pool hot in the first place - a task that heat recovery pool heaters are not good at, since there is no heat to recover till the pool gets hot and starts boiling off vapor, if you follow me. That, and as a backup heater for whenever the Dectron unit ever goes south.
Call your local Dectron guy. It is a specialty product, and usually they are trained to understand how everything should work and help you with what doesn't.

I have a customer who just bought a home with a dectron d57-21 system. I am trying to work the bugs out and get it running properly. One problem i have is the last company installed an additional heat exchanger to heat the pool water off the boiler. The specs say nothing about adding another exchanger for this type of system. As i understand it these systems are matched custom for each application.
One big problem is they are powering a 24v zone valve for the exchanger off the pc board on the unit. In turn overheating the pool water which should be controlled by the systems own heat exchanger and aquastat.
Any info would be appreciated.0 -
The way I have always seen them set up is a seperate aquastat set slightly below the temp the dectron/pool unit is trying to maintain. They are good for maintaining pool temp but take forever to raise it when its cold.0 -
Yep.
