How to Drain Boiler?

I am afraid that the water in my boiler is dirty so I would like to drain the boiler and replace the water with clean water. After I turn down the thermostat, can I simply drain the entire boiler through the valve that I use to do the weekly blowdown and then just refill it with the water feed valve?

is it a steam boiler
those are the only boilers you should drain.if you drain hot water boilers with baseboard you could get air into the system. bobTo learn more about this professional, click here to visit their ad in Find A Contractor.0 -

Joe,
There should be a boiler drain at the bottom of the boiler. That is where you should drain it out from. If you drain it from your low water cut-off it wil only drain out to that level.
If it is real dirt you may have to fill and drain as necessary, You also may have to drain out your wet returns, you would be suprised as to what is in them.
Be carefull when filling your boiler that it is not hot and then add cold water which will cause you a BIG problem.
Good luck....Ant
