hammering radiators

One pipe steam,quite a few of the radiators hammer especially when the boiler has not been running for a while and the radiators are cooling down.thank you for your help..

Banging
is cause by water and steam meeting up where they shouldn't.
First, check to see if the shutoff valves are completely open. They should be.
Then, put a level on each radiator- they should pitch back slightly toward the shutoff valve. Install shims under the air-vent end if needed.
These moves should stop the banging. If they don't, the problem may be elsewhere and is echoing up into the radiators.
