New Computer

1800 MHz, 512 MB of SDRAM, Windows XP Professional; runs extremely well; very quick to boot up, load programs and so far, no bugs.
But I lost my version of Netscape Communicator browser; it was an older version (like 5.- or 6.-) and had all my favorites. I had to even get a new email account and lost all my saved mail.
Does anyone know how to get these back? It's gotta' be somewhere on my computer, right?

ALAN (kog)
I JUST BUILT QUITE THE SAME THING, been using XPpro for over a year now and have had no problems yet!! the explorer favorites should have been in a file on yo hdd and should be easy to save(do not know which, think its in documents and settings) at least that is where mine is !! the eml's you have need to be converted to a different file extension to be saved, and that is all I need to do to throw out this 1.3p4 dinosaur. video card is where it's at, we threw in a nvidia g-4 and WOW !!the graphics of the online gaming is fantastic, so is the dvd player, now if I can only be allowed to turn up the sound hmmmmm!!
have a great time with it !!

Maybe
I should just do a search and at least find the directory that contains my old emails; after that, I can copy it over to the new directory.
Thanks for the help, Murph'.
Best wishes,
Alan

I still have Netscape 4.7 on my laptop
I think most of the 4.x series are similar. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to C:Program FilesNetscapeUsers. You will see a folder with your e-mail address as the name. Copy all the files in this folder, and the Archive, Mail and News folders which also appear, to a floppy or CD-RW. Transfer the files to the new system, install Netscape on the new system and import your files. You can download the latest Netscape for free at www.netscape.com.
The latest versions of Netscape (6.x and 7.x, there never was a version 5) will import files from versions 4.x. I won't go into the details here, instructions are in the Netscape Help files.
One of my e-newsletters that came in today mentions yet more security flaws in Internet Explorer and Outlook. We rarely hear of a similar flaw in Netscape- wonder why that is?
