This came up at Wetstock....

If you have potential clients competing contractors stealing your designs and using it...depending on which part of the country you may be still liable for the design even though it was installed by others...this is one of many CYA clauses...best to have your own shark look it over...but it'll give you an idea of what other designers do.


"(Company name) prepared these shop drawings and specifications for the account of the specified client. The information contained within reflects (company name) best judgement in light of the information available to (company name) at the time of preparation. Any use which a third party makes of these documents, or any reliance on or decisions to be made based on it, are the responsibility of such third parties. (company name) accepts no responsibility for damages, if any suffered by any third party as a result of decisions made or actions based on these documents. This drawing owned by (company name), is submitted for the purpose of illustrating the assembly and installation of a (describe system). This document shall not be copied, reproduced, or altered by any means or method, nor shall it be distributed to any individual or companies without prior written authorization from (company name). Drawing and design is to be considered preliminary, not for construction, unless approved by (company name) and a Professional Engineer/Architect who has at (company name) request, reviewed and approved to his/her satisfaction the concepts presented hereon. Professional stamp relates to the design concept only. This document is to be read in conjunction with the mechanical schematic and load design calculations submitted by (company name) and/or the Professional Engineer."
