Galv. pipe in hydronic systems with treated water

I've seen dark hints of problems caused when galv. pipe is used in hydronic systems with treated water. As I understand it, the zinc and the chemicals used for treating the water interact in negative ways. What are these problems, specifically? Would a 3/4" x 6" galv. nipple in a 500 gal. system be an issue? Thanks for your help.
