Installing Radiant Hydronics on existing concrete floor

We are renovating our basement. The house (1929) has hot water heat with cast iron rads. The basement has nothing. I am determined to put radiant hydronic heat down there by means of an overpour on the existing concrete. Our dilemma is - do we need to put down rfoil or some such insulator before laying out the hose and pouring the concrete? Or do we just lay the hose directly on the existing concrete?

Insulation
would definitely be worth the time and expense. It will reduce your (the slab I mean) downward loss, and quicken the response time. Lots of products available, depends on how much thickness you can give up.
