converting hot water back to a vapor system

15 years ago. There were no changes made to the radiation, throttling valves
and steam traps are still in place. There were some small changes to the
near boiler piping that could be easily changed back. On cold days the house
does not stay warm. I've had a long and costly history of boiler problems
and another one has just come up. I'm considering replacing the boiler. My
question is this. Should I stay with the hotwater or convert back to steam.

If it still has the return ells on it, I'm not surprised that it heats poorly. The holes inside are very small.

If it doesn't have them, it will be expensive to convert back, because traps would need to be put on each radiator, in addition to any other things that have been changed around when it was converted.

I'd consider changing back, then examine EVERYTHING on the system before I decided to convert.

If it never worked right after conversion

there may be other issues besides those return ells- such as too-small return piping, etc.

I'd seriously consider changing it back to its natural state- VAPOR!
