Cold weather pexing (hr)

the HVAC contractor had a construction heater on the job today (32 degrees). I placed my uncoiler several feet away to warm and soften the 3/8 and 5/8" pex coils. Get it up to about 100 degrees and move fast!

  • Do ya think...

that idear would work outside? When we start tomorrow morning at 8:00, it MIGHT be above ZERO. It was -10 this morning. Night sky reradiation backed up by an Arctic cold front. Not looking forward to tomorrow.

    Cool tubing uncoiler HR.

    If you

could "tent" in in some how that would help. Maybe a wafer board enclosure of sorts. Properly placed and adjusted the heater could warm it as you pull it off, I reckon. Might take some trial and error. Well worth the effort if you are pulling big bore tube in the cold.

Used to be a heated uncoiler available from some German manufacture, EHT Sigmund I believe.

    Cold ad for PAP..

I sure prefer handling composites in the cold weather. Now we're not sure if they can make the pour 'til spring! Dan

    Sorry H.R.

Didn't get a chance to see/meet you at Wetstock .(stuck in the back with the oil guys I guess) But how bout a well insulated , radiant paneled trailer with a propane fired munchkin ? Maybe hook it up to a big trailer and heat a porta-pottie on the side to keep all the staff on a job happy for the time your there ? Nice roller setup and keep the tubing warm (inside and out ) for the layout .

Added bonus ....contractors will keep you around for the heated thunder bucket , vs. the cold hard plastic butt freezers they get used to .Just a thought . Chris

    Rohr Laboratories

I thought that you would have designed a hydronic-heated tubing uncoiler by now - maybe powered by one of those little titan units.

    Best Regards
