Here is the old pacific steel boiler that is coming out today. This lady is way past her prime. It was a real back breaker taking this one out.Replacing her with a peerless ect 6 section with dual low water cutoffs and a tankless 8 gallon per minute feeding into a 80 john wood aquabooster. The burner will be a riello f10.Hope to be done tuesday around 4 if all goes well. This one is a three man job.Great to have the extra help.

    Is that a Vaporstat

on the old Pacific? If so, might be a good idea to put one on the Peerless- they work well with those hand-adjustable Vent-Rite vents, or with TRVs.

Steamhead, can you clear up something for me?

On a regular one pipe low pressure system, (not vapor) can you just substitute a vaporstat for the pressuretrol? Or, is there more to it than that? Thanks.

    Depends on the system

I have found on some systems that chronically overheat, a Vaporstat works well because it eliminates compressing so much steam in the radiators. I put one on a 1-pipe system in a 7-unit apartment building and it worked well. I also put Vent-Rite #1 vents on most of the radiators- they have dials on them you can adjust by hand. This gave the tenants some control over their heat without opening windows.

The downside to the Vaporstat is its cost. But under the right circumstances it can pay for itself.

It is a p404 with a manual reset next to it.Heating wise the system also heated well, but ate the owner out of house and home.My figures show a 35 to 50% reduction in fuel usage with the new unit.I will post them tommorrow night when I get done.

    Replacing.....

Such modern equipment ? Looks like they put that puppy in there with a shoehorn . Couple things to make the vaporstat work well, Make sure all the main vents work and are in the right position and pay for the new control for the Riello that does post purge . (may be standard now , but I used to specify just in case) Clean starts and stops =clean looking boiler room . Can't wait for the pictures ! Chris
