ASME code CSD-1

industrial insurance co. just may. There are a lot of Control Safety Devices required for the larger boilers. Has to do with ignition and safe lighting as well as pressure within the vessel. You may even look at Michigan's web site for the office to call on Monday. I looked at ASME site and they have to charge for info, although the CSD-1 code is avaliable there.

Does any one know if this code requirement in the state of Michigan applies only to Boilers 400,000 and larger?

    CSD-1

Michigan is a CSD-1 State. All boilers must comply with CSD-1 rules. Boilers rated at 400,000 and larger have specific requirements under CSD-1 rules. The Michigan residential code covers boilers in one and two family dwellings and the Michigan mechanical code covers up to six family dwellings. Six family dwellings and all commercial installations must be installed according to the Michigan boiler code rules. All boilers must be ASME stamped and ASME requires that all boilers follow CSD-1 rules. There seems to be some confusion for the inspectors. The manufacturers are following all the rules as published by ASME in order to get stamped. (Liability) The rules for 400,000 and larger are much stricter than in the past. Primarily it requires: Two operating controls one auto and one manual reset, two low water cut-offs. One auto and one manual reset. The ignition control is basicly required to allow only one trial for ignition and must lock out. The boiler cannot be reset by a power-down and must be manual reset at the device, no auto or remote resets. There is a provision that allows one retry for ignition after a certain time period. Obviously its more complicated and requirements vary depending on size and type of boiler. Some of this seems to be a bit of overkill, but thats its going to be. I am sure it will get more coplicated in the future.

    Anyone have more

info on this subject? I'm going to take the 2-B test in March if it doesn't interfere with Wetstock II. The boiler division just says study ASME yada-yada yada.
