Remember this project I posted a month ago? There was a myriad of issues such as:

No pump on the mixed side of the 4-way and the 4-way being too big and not piped in correctly.

No control system for the 4-way

No air elimination to speak of and none on the radiant

A Burnham AL 80 indirect piped in ¾” copper and run by a Taco 007 and slow opening Taco zone valve. The Burnham boiler is rated at 164K BTUH. They always ran out of hot water.

They have actually lived with this through three Winters. This guy is a saint.

To rectify these issues, I started by re-piping the indirect to 1 ¼” and it now has a dedicated Grundfos 26-64. I dare them to try and run it out now! ;-)

Resized and moved the pump to the mixed side of the radiant and added a vertical Spirovent to remove any air. Made the oversized 4-way a secondary loop from a quasi primary loop so it keeps hunting to a minimum since it sips hot water now instead of guzzling it.

Added the actuator to the 4-way and control the entire system (radiant, two duct coils and DHW) through a Wirsbo 311.

The original contractor supplied the ARGO ZV relays.

To his credit, the builder of the house is going to pay for this invoice and try to recoup it from the original heating company. 2 days and $5K later it's running and although it's not what I would have designed, I am sure they will be very comfortable this heating season.

Warm Regards,

hb

    Looks great!!

I have two systems to look at next week.

One I am slightly familiar with(builder asked me to look at it about 2 years ago)

The other sounds really bad. The homeowner wants the system torn out! I was told that he paid MEGA bucks for it and it has never worked.

I do not enjoy telling folks how much MORE they have to spend to undo a messed up system.

Knowing that I made a difference eases the discomfort somewhat.

I try not to think about all of the other systems that are out there. It could drive you nuts!

I'm sure they will be happier now HB.

    The bearer of bad tidings...

is always the bad guy. "We couldn't find anyone competent to do this job right the first time..."

They also paid 1/3 of what it woould have cost them for us to do it right the first time, without the aggravation factor.

    When WILL people learn?

Been there, done that, constitues about 25% of our annual business income.

    The bearer. (AKA ME)
