I picked up a new client this summer.I have two homes done.Only plumbing. He uses a company that installs heat pumps. The heat pumps have an electric backup. The mechanical company seem to be on the ball.Conscientious in design and install.Returns in all rooms and fan is run on constant.Keep in mind I am in NE PA and we design for 0 (I go -10-70).We pay $.07/KW.The link I added is the insulation company. They are suppling a "guaranteed" useage of power consumption annually. This is for heating and cooling only.I dont have or know all the particulars.
These systems are installed for peanuts compared to hydronics.Supply ducting is all fiber duct. All branch ducting is round metal duct. The homes are in the 2000 sq' range and the electric bill is to be no more than $1000.00 fo heat and cool.(annually)Heat pumps are the rage round here!An answer to home builders dilema of the mechanical cost.
The Comfort Home Company makes it tight.Indoor air quality is not addressed. The builder just did an addition and makeover to his own home and had a heatpump installed.I am heatpump illiterate. The idea of spending more $$ for home comfort needs to be seriously justified. He is a builder:)Competition rules in this world.

How about
contacting the owners after theyve been thru a couple uncomfortable winters, and telling them you can REALLY keep them warm?

so if you can't
beat 'em join 'em. start selling water to water heat pumps. if they love their air side units they will love radiant floor, and you can retrofit the air handlers to chilled water. geo thermal hp's that do water to water make excellent radiant systems. you get the best of both worlds radiant heat, and properly installed cooling with out scorching any air. life hands you lemons- make lemonade

Hard to beat
a heat pump for efficiency! I agree with Paul, if they absoutly want electric as their energy source a hydronic heat pump would compare.
But it comes down to a COMFORT issue. Put those air folks on warm floors for a winter and see which they prefer.
I must say the FA installers have a leg up on radiant as far as dealing with IAQ. They can do a lot more to address this important aspect, especially in a very tightly constructed home.
Have them start installing those heat pumps with desuper heaters that you could use to run a small radiant zone (bath and kitchen) Then they get the best of all worlds. Heat, cool, IAQ and radiant where it is most liked
