The Longest Loop!
Today I was called in to look at a radiant floor that was not heating all the way across. 1st third of the floor was hot, 2nd third was warm and the final third was cool.
The facts ,located on 1st floor, foyer/kicthen light weight gypsum W/tile over 3/4 plywood and TJI floor joists, full basement with no insulation. Aprox 650 sq ft surface on 1 loop, heated by 40 gallon hwh, 007 pump (pumping away) located in basement.1/2 tubbing.
I didnot install or design this system but am looking for recommendations to give to owner. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated, I would like to avoid telling him to tear out his new floor.
Thanks Don

Use
a 4 way valve piped like a cross with a time delay reversing relay to reverse the direction of flow every twenty minutes or so. I've used it numerous times and it works like a champ. You just can't use it with any flow direction critical devices (zone valves, check valves etc...)

where would your pump go?
I understand the theory behind that, but if directional critical flow devices can't be used, than where would the pump sit? how would you pipe it?
didn't you post a picture of one of your projects some time ago?
curious

Is it possible
TO cut the tubing half way and split the loop ?
Also get some insulation under the loops.

reverse flow
I have heard about this senario before and would like to try it but would need a pipping & wiring drawing to atempt this. How do you stop the flow when the T-stat is off?
Thanks Don0 -
Think I would try
a high head pump first. An easy to install item that just may get you close enough. Can you get under the space to do a little exploration. Carefully whittle through the plywood to find and split the loop somehow.
Turn the water off first!
