I ordered the demo version of wirsbo's software and it should arrive in a week or so. In the meantime I was wondering if any of you have used it? What did you think? What software do you use for your design heat-loss calcs?
Thanks in advance.....

Thanks for the quick reply john, does the program allow for loop designs with closer spacing near outside wall, large window or glass doors? The ones I have used so far do not allow for this so a certain amount of fudging is required.0 -
ADS
It took a little while to get used to all of the new bells and whistles, but I really like it. I do wish they would allow us to import and export files into the custom database. I could export my whole database to my contractor with separate files for circulators, boilers, etc. It could also include GPM and Head, BTU InOutput and so on.
I understand that most contractors are only comfortable with their own designs and I can respect that. But here is a free template for you to check against. I can design a system, include all of the correctly sized circulators, air separator, expansion tank, boiler, etc. and then "plug it in" as a quote and send it to my contractor to verify. The snowmelt portion is pretty helpful, even though the seven step process manually was simple, this makes it even easier to dovetail in the other material list.
I would like the ability to do more heat loads without radiant floor. I had a HO call and he is moving in a existing house on to a new foundation. Radiant floor is going in to slab, main and 2nd floor have existing CI Radiators, Attic is being converted to radiant with fin-tube convectors, I had to measure the EDR's of existing radiator to estimate correct boiler sizing. I am in the Plumbing wholesale side of the business, so I don't have J-calc or other methods of heat loss developement at my disposal.
Love to hear more from others.

Definitely worth the money.
Although, mine was a freebie! I got it at the HCT gig in Las Vegas. I took Felcie's copy, I think ;-) It does a pretty thorough job when it comes to radiant design and makes a good presentation tool. I also use Wrightsoft and the loads are almost identical between the two radiant programs. There are some major things in the works for ADS, so stay tuned. I would tell you, but then I would have to kill you (g)!
Warm Regards,
