running pex through openings that need to be sealed
Are there any products that I should stay away from when trying to seal an opening that I am running pex pipe through? Such as silicone, thumb gum, fiberglas insulation. Will any of these ruin the integrity of the pipe?0 -
Our method
We sleeve the pex in a piece of reamed PVC of suitable diameter after wrapping the pex with a piece of Tyvek building wrap. Use a little masking tape to hold the Tyvek in place while you push it through. Leave a little of the Tyvek exposed and then caulk with whatever you want. The caulk is in contact with the Tyvek, not the pex. This also allows for friction free movement of the pex.0 -
Pex
We use a firecaulk wherever the tubing penetrates a wall partition. Most all of the rated firecaulks that I know of are combatable with pex.
