This is why I use Grundfos 3 speed pumps.............hb

On the project I just finished, I used 1/2" Wirsbo MultiCor for my supply and return piping from each baseboard area. I have two 3 loop manifolds to serve two zones. By doing my baseboard this way, every room gets the same water temper and there is no need to worry about drop across a big circuit. I have the Grundfos pump set on speed 1 and I average a 10° drop across the loops. The pump is using 36 watts while both zones (total of 72' of Argo Panel Trim) are running. Yes, I said 36 watts for approximately 22K of heat loss. There is much more than the beloved AFUE when it comes to energy consumption. Don't you agree?
Another benefit is easily accomplished future zoning with wireless (or wired) telestats. I love this stuff!

Fact of fiction
hb, I have been told those manifolds need to be mounted with the actuators head attachment pointing up. Yes or No? Maybe your manifold pictured will not have actuators installed, is this why they are pointed down?

The only issue.........
would be if you had a water leak above the telestat. The telestats work equally as well up or down. Maybe if someone from Wirsbo is looking in they could give some input on this. I have many manifolds with the telestats mounted this way with no failures to date. Imagine how unattactive it would be if I flipped it around and looped all of the tubing.

Upside down
I've also installed many manifold ports upside down for radiant apps. The telestats work and have been for years. It's probably not recommended because the sediment would fall on the piston valve seat, but I've never had a service problem.

Ignorant Wirsbo Manifold Question
Do the Wirsbo Flow meter manifolds incorporate a balancing valve or do they need to be paired with one of their valved mainfolds? I assume the Flow meter manifolds might be position dependent.
Best Regards

You could always mount the manifold on the vertical, instead of the horizontal. This way if there was a leak, it would not drip into the telestat, also, the sediment question, with the valve seat would not present a problem.

Actuators and 3 speed pumps
You can always point the actuators down, the operation will still be the same. The suggestion to not do so is that it is an electrical item and it only takes a couple drops of water to short it out. But I'm sure no one on the Wall ever has leaks (grin).
3-speed pumps; just got finished hooking up a Grundfos 15-58 at my brothers house for a small underfloor radiant system at 125 F. Just to play with pump to see what it can do, I had my digital thermometer with two sensors.
Speed 1 gave me a 12 degree drop
Speed 2 gave 10 degree drop
speed 3 gave a 7 degree drop.
I like it, it gives alot of versatility to some of those problematic projects.Dave Holdorf
