NEED SOME ADVICE !

I AM ABOUT TO START AN IN FLOOR RAIANT HEATING PROJECT, FIRST OF ALL, A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT: THE BUILDING IS GOING TO BE A COMMERCIAL METAL TYPE BUILDING, THE DIMENSIONS ARE 50x75', THE FLOOR IS GOING TO BE SIX INCH THICK CONCRETE WITH #6 REBAR ON 12" CENTERS. THE BUILDING IS GOING TO HAVE A PARTITION DIVIDING THE BUILDING IN HALF, MAKING EACH SIDE OF THE PARTITION 25x75. ONE SIDE OF THE BUILDING IS GOING TO BE USED FOR TRUCK MAINTENANCE, IT IS GOING TO HAVE A CEILING HEIGHT OF 25'. THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BUILDING IS TO HAVE TWO LEVELS, THE UPPER LEVEL IS GOING TO HAVE ( AND I HATE TO ADMIT IT, A COMBINATION SCORCHED AIR AND A/C UNIT). THE LOWER LEVELS ARE BE ZONED INDEPENTLY. I MAY HAVE LEFT SOMETHING OUT HERE AS FAR AS THE BUILDING DESCRIPTION, I CAN GET INTO MORE DETAIL IF MORE INFO IS NEEDED.
I AM GOING TO BE USING ENTRAN RADIANT HOSE. WHAT I NEED TO KNOW IS HOW WOULD YOU GO ABOUT LAYING OUT THE HOSE? NORMALLY ON A SMALLER PROJECT ( RESIDENTIAL) I WILL START MY IN FLOOR LOOPS, SUPPLY AND RETURNS AT THE BOILER FOR EASE OF MANIFOLDING. I LIKE THE SERPENTINE LAYOUT, ALTERNATING SUPPLY AND RETURN PIPING SO THAT THERE ARE NO COLD SPOTS IN THE FLOOR. SO IF ANY OF YOU RADIANT WETHEADS HAVE A FEW POINTERS FOR THIS RELATIVELY NEW RADIANT INSTALLER, THROW THEM AT ME! THANKS GUYS

  • Five easy steps

    1) Do your heating calculations to determine how many BTU's per square foot you need to keep the spaces at the desired temperature (let's say 68*) on the coldest average day for your area.

    2) Every hydronic system manufacturer has tables that wll tell you what spacing and fluid temperature you need for a given BTU output depending on the R-value of the floor covering, i.e. carpet pad/carpet, tile, hardwood, etc.

    3) Make sure the slab is installed with the proper insulation required for a responsive radiant system (underslab and slab edge).

    4) Zone for different floor coverings and solar gain orientation. You don't want a south facing room on the same zone as a north facing room.

    5) Install the tubing.

It also makes it easier on us if you remove the caps lock on your keyboard. Too many caps on a Sunday morining gets the adrenaline going.
