Steam pressure 100 psig reg'ed to 75 psig
Laundry equipment

Why is pneumatic vavle in vertical piping. flow downward? build up condensate for slug of water?

The original pressure regulator was piped in vertical as well.

I imagine pneumatic valve opens slow but..

I was going to provide drip leg and trap on drop then take off horizontal for regulator and install regulator and a strainer in horizontal then I guess elbow down to manufactures control valve.

Hesitant to mess with manufacturers piping and their valve placement.

Thoughts?

    Where...

... manufacturers put things often has more to do with the accounting department than engineering. If nothing else, this valve won't last like it should. Although it will likely last for the warranty period. If the valve can't be on a horizontal line, and has to be arranged so it's in a vertical steam line, with the flow downward, then it should have a trap teed into the line just above it at act as an over-seat drain. But unless you've got money in the job for this, it'll be coming out of YOUR pocket.

Basically, it's driven by being "low bid". And who drives "low bid"? The end user.

Funny thing is there is another steam connection on machine and it is horizontal.
