Guess who is going to be HD's new partner!

HD kicked off the wet heat version of the deal they have with Trane on October 1st.

And Weil-Mclain is the partner.

Let's see where this goes.

    Its easy to do

Just ask the guy who works at HD. He used to do it it all the time. Just take the size you have now and make it alittle bigger ( just in case ) and pipe it up. If the guy at HD in the orange vest could do it so could anyone. He just could'nt make a living at thats why he's there now.

By the way, tell WielMclain to put on a short skirt and some cheap eye shadow and go stand on the corner. Some one will be by in a minute.

    Unbelievable...

    That's funny, I just checked www.homedepot.com and

I would be able to buy all kinds of things--but no boilers. Even a word search came up with just boiler drains etc. If this is a done deal, given the time of year, Big Blue, and Big Orange are missing the Big Game. Maybe Home Depot has not yet made up their mind on which boiler company to feature yet.....C

    I spoke

to a rep from The Wallwork group yesterday. They handle Trane equipment and implement the Trane/HD program in my area.

They also recruit contractors to the program. He verified that as of Oct.1 the program was running and that W-M was the chosen boiler.

Maybe HD is behind the ball getting the news out, but the program is running.

    furnish and install

The big-box/vendor programs I've seen don't involve direct sale of equipment to the HO customer. Rather they just generate sales leads (actual sales?) which are passed on to participating contractors - after the big-box taking their cut of course.

I've seen boilers @ HD for two years...

Along with the related (laughable and scary) "How to determine your home's heat load" advertising. It was a W/M boiler, I just assumed they did it all the time. Is the difference now vs. then that this is the exclusive boiler? Do they require a contractor do the install now?

I once got into a brief discussion (last year or so) with the orange apron on the sale to HO's, and the method of heatloss calculation...and he said he "recommends" to people that they hire a contractor to install the boiler, and did not say much about the heatloss. I could have said how ridiculous that was, etc. but did not.

I would hope W/M is making money on this agreement, because it seemingly will tarnish their reputation in the general profession...

    Just my thoughts, PJO

You can bet your best hat

That you'll never see Viessmann or Buderus in HD, Lowes or the like. Watch HD and those other big boxes pull in their horns now that they are dealing with a contracting (getting smaller) market. The bigger they are the harder.......

    Big Orange Box

I remember seeing Slant-Fin boilers,at HD here on L.I..Had a few HO call me about installation, but passed up,Can anyone say what happened to Slant-Fin deal and whats with the W-Mc deal.I also believe in supporting my local P-H supply house, who support me with fair treatment.JB
  • You're so right about

supporting your local plumbing supply house, "where everybody knows your name".

    That's one of "Coburn Supply's" motto's.

Case in point; I helped out a friend yesterday to install a small bar sink and disposal etc'. He has been getting his own supplies at HD etc', that's ok with me, I was just helping out. BUT, rather than him drive to HD to get a cheap looking S-trap for $9.70, I got a top quality trap with all the possible parts in a box, from Coburns for $4.60.

Of the 50 or so plumbers in this small town, I don't know of ANY that shop box stores.

I can call in an order, no matter how small, and when I get there 5 min's later it's on the counter waiting "what kept you Brian". Time's money, supply houses know that, HD could give a rats @&%*.

Enough, gotta go install another Laing "AutoCirc".

    Later, Brian.

I spoke directly to the brass a Weil-McLain and here's the deal.

Weil-McLain does not have any deal with Home Depot. If W/M enters into any deal with Home Depot, Weil-McLain WILL NOT sell boilers directly to Johnny Homeowner through Home Depot. Boilers would not even be stocked at H/D. Boilers would be sold through a dealer network (contractors) with the contractors buying the boiler from their local ditributor.

    HD/Trane

Interesting article in the current HVAC News about dealer experinces with the Trane program. Program calls for dealer to man the HD "booth". No private company info allowed to be given out. HD only. Do you look good in Orange? Specific HD training req'd. HD works on a commission basis. Can probably work great for the right kind of guy, but I think the thing to do is rent space as clsoe to the entrance to a HD store as possible and do a real heating showroom. Set up financing thru your primary vendor and prepare to kick butt.
