Our school is planning to build a new 70,000 sq ft high school building. I'm trying to talk them into radiant floor heat instead of hot air or ?. Can someone give me a website or information showing operating costs of the different systems? Thanks

    Radiant Panel Assocation

Would be a place to start. Two things determine the cost of heating. 1. How well is the place insulated? how much infiltration is there?
    2. What efficiencie is the heating plant, and how well does the heat get spread around?
    3. that adds up to comfort.
    4. the only cost factor is the initial cost. you cannot gain a thing becase a btu is a btu. It is how you keep it and how you produce it that can lower the yearly costs. How you control and spread it out is a comfort factor.
Floor radiant is everywhere! temperture difference is almost non-existant between the floor and the cieling. Drafts are very quiet, that is not overly noticible.
Warm air (scorched) is just that. requires system to spread it, with more motors than just a pump. Drafty, big difference between floor and cieling. anyway bigugh

    there's always

the air quality issue. We actually have a committee formed in our town to assess this. (We had a school torn down for health issues). Push the benefits of radiant heat from a health issue also.

    Consider using

ground source heat pumps and radiant. Fantastic combo with heating and cooling capabities with the lowest annual operating costs. Is is your money afterall..
