Apparently there was a ruckus at Frank Blau's flat rate seminar here this afternoon at ISH. I only heard second-hand reports but I'll post some details when I get them. (Darn, I asked my boss to cover this seminar for The News while I attended a different one!)

is personally responsible for me getting a $30,000 raise in my hard earned pay, and perhaps more importantly a raised image in my community. The guy has more than likely been subject to more scorn than any other plumbing speaker in our country. In my opinion, your either a plumber or you're a business person, pick one. (yes, I still work the tools by the way.)

That's good to hear. Gettin' all emotional and yellin' and screamin' doesn't accomplish much.

I hope my remark didn't come off as a blast at Frank Blau. I was trying to make a joke and maybe tickle someone into telling what happened (Tacky, huh?).

What I've read of Frank Blau makes sense: Know what your costs of doing business are, and charge enough to cover those costs, plus make a profit.

When I had my biz, I fell into the old E-Myth trap. I liked the design and build stuff, but wasn't so hot at the business end of things. That should be foremost, or you won't stay in business long.

Hey Bill, does the sun ever shine in OKC? I've seen it maybe twice in the last three weeks I've been in Norman!

Frank had his afternoon seminar

in the same room as the one I had just finished using. He told me that it was an disgruntled ex-employee who decided to get a bit of attention by coming into the room and calling Frank names from the back. He disturbed a class that good people had paid to attend, but Frank was pretty cool about it all.

Nah, I was not after your comments on Frank. I'm like you, I was wondering was got him stirred up. I can just see someone (the enemy) in his seminar setting him up for an argument. His stuff has caused disagreements for many years.

Frank tends to use "tough love" on his fellow contractors and he is totally dedicated to those business philosophies he believes in. While I don't always agree with him, I do respect his viewpoints.

And yes, you are right about the sun...I haven't seen it either.

Wish I had known you were in the state and I would have slipped down there. Headed to EP tomorrow though. Keep in touch.

Blau is a pioneer and as such has the typical detractors, naysayers, and jealous types who are always ready to spew their sanctimonuious non-sense......."But Gary???? don't you feel that your breaking the law by flat rating?????
