    Use any good boiler

but feed it through a water heater, set on high, and after the water heater, install a quality air separator. Both will add years to the life of the boiler that's seeing 100% fresh water.

I installed a steam boiler a number of years ago for a similar application and they would install a new boiler every 3-4 years even after the one I put in. None of the wholesale houses made any recommendations like that. But this makes alot of sense, preheat the water to help the oxygen seperate and then run it thropugh an air seperator. They even tried treating the water. Any more info that you have on this type of application would be great. May be this could be your next give and get question. Andy

    Food Processing

Check out this Fulton Steam Boiler link, look at the applications section and read about what they can do.

    the preheat

also does a great job of letting the hardness settle out of the feed water.

on oil. This one lasted about 5 years. No water treatment at all. The entire section is internally white with a lovely insulating glaze of sediment. The bottom passages get completely clogged with chips. It must work $-wise for the customer however. People keep eating the crabs. Use the standard piping for the boiler as in the manual. This "system" has a return for the start-up condensate. Figure about 25K BTU's per bushel.

    I'll bet

you can more than double its life with the feedwater heater and the air separator.

    I would

assume that this holds true for any process type application. Are you talking about a regular air sep. like you would use on a regular hot water boiler application? Spirovent or the like?

    No doubt about it.

To steal a phrase from the financial people, and the people who estimate new car mpg "...individual results may vary....." "current performance is no guarantee of....".
This paraticular job is well piped. Most boilers used for this type of application, especially the mobile boilers, are usually piped like the attached photo. Look how well these two companies can work together when given the chance. C

some jurisdictions, like Maryland, inspect these boilers, and they must comply with csd-1. Oil boilers often escape inspection. Not wise, just a fact. C
