you can use the vortec air eliminator with a steel tank. They give instructions in the package. You may also find it on the website.

    taco vortech or spirovent

i have a customer who wants to use a taco vortech or a spirovent on a upcoming residential boiler job with a regular steel expansion tank.
can this be done or must he use a amtrol extrol type expansion tank?
if he needs to use a extrol expansion tank why?

    thanks bob eck

    Tank vrs. tank

If you choose to use a air scoop (vortech or spiro) you need to use a diaphram type tank. These try to expel air from the system. If you choose to use an compression tank you want air to be diverted to that type tank. Don't use any auto air vents either with a compression tank. Scott G.

    Expansion tank

Can be done just pipe the steel expansion tank to the top of the air Separator you just can't use a spirovent or Taco. You can use the B&G IAS. In my opinion for what an Extrol cost it is worth using the Extrol with the air separator of your choice.

    spirovent w/ steel tank

my father is old school and will not have a diaphram tank in his house. I'm new school and won't install a system with out a spirovent. It's been three years with the "combo" on a 9 zone, cast iron rad., cast iron bsbrd, fin tube & radiant heating system and no problems at all.
