push-pull pumping

An engineer told me that a radiant zone circuit needs two pumps-one(on the supply) pushing and the other (on the return) pulling the water. This is to prevent cavitation in the boiler from differences in pressure. Any evidence of this in the field?

cavitation?
how big is the radiant zone and what is the flow rate? never Heard of a problem like that in any "standard" loop lenght system.
