By-pass on weil-Mclain WGO3 with tankless heater coil

I am installing this boiler with help/advice from my local heating guy
He is not up on the new and latest methods (Dans Books)
and I have to point out different things to him.
He wants me to put in a by-pass from supply to return with a valve in the by-pass
My question is this, do I need use 1 1/2" supply to header then 3/4" for my zones) for the by-pass pipe or can I reduce it to 1 1/4"?
Also must the by-pass be prior to the circulator or after it?
He explained to me that it is nessecary only for use in the summer when I need DHW from the tankless coil.
I do not plan on useing it in the summer months as I have a solar panel to preheat my supply to my electric tank.

    Bypass

The most important job of the bypass is to preheat some of the return water as to avoid thermal shock on the boiler which is a very bad thing .. Most of the time the bypass has nothing to do with the domestic hot water read the literature that came with the boiler. Any more questions about the instructions call,, Weil they will be happy to discuss it.
