direct gas fired hvac individual system

Hi we are retrofiting an apartment complex in the northeast and a direct gas fired individual hvac system is being offered with individual units in each apartment, any info on this type of system?

    sounds like indivisual gas furnaces with a/c coils in each
    apartment hopefully install company has done a heatloss/heatgain so that everybody will be comfortble they
    must be using 90+furnaces i would be interested in the brand of equipment

    what specifically is suggested. In the biz "direct fired" usually means a system where air, usually outside air is pushed right over the gas flames without benefit of a heat exchanger like the one in a furnace. These are used in gialnt paint shops or welding shops or auto repair shops were alot of warmed makeup air is needed. Modern apt. retrofits should be done by gas heat, elect is easy to meter but very not cost effective for the tenant. I like to see at least a "MagicPac" by Armstrong/Lennox if you want the AC in one package or there are alot of direct vent wall furnaces some up to 90% eff. The really nice way to go is a wall hung boiler.
