Boiler water additives
We've lived here just a year. The water in our 1922 vintage boiler has always been really rusty, and the level in the sight tube jumps around a little it as it heats. We haven't done anything except flush the low water cutoff valve weekly during heating season. I don't know what if any additives were in the water when we came.
Should I clean or flush the boiler and add some chemical to it? I recall buying a new radiator for my '65 Ford convertible after a flushing left it looking like swiss cheese (the rust was all that was holding it together...). Would rather nurse this a few more years than risk forcing an immediate replacement.
