Could be?
I hate to say it but thats the way so many companies seem to be going. In a way I can understand it with the internet the way it is today I can get product just as fast and for about the same price over the net as I can my supplier.Part of the problem is some suppliers are not stocking a wide range of products and are just ordering what their customers need when they need it.
I feel fortunate to have an excellent supplier close to me who does a very good job of keeping what I use on his shelves so I can have it when I want it and not wait for the UPS guy to bring it.

Believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have seen a trend in my area where our suppliers forget who actually butters their bread. They sell equiptment, pipe, fittings, etc.. at the same price for me, a contractor
who might spend 10k a month at their place, to a builder that spends $400 a month in their store. The thing they don't realize is that when I come in I know what I need, can generally pull it myself and ask very little of their time. Nothing iritates me more than to walk into a supplier to pick up material and see the mgr showing a remodeling contractor how to wire a circ pump while letting tradesmen stand & wait for what they need. I sometimes wonder what the hell these guys are thinking, Iam very loyal, would never go to the big box stores for supplies, but it dosn't seem to bother my suppliers to quote the same prices to builders and homeowners as i would get. I can't imagine moen going behind my suppliers back & selling to me for less, but that's exactly how i feel about my suppliers. These suppliers like to act like they are your best freind, but the only thing they care about is pushing product. AL0 -
Or spend....
20 min. on the phone with the Joe homeowner that just bought $10.00
worth of cpvc will I'm standing there with my thumb up my butt tring to
get 1K worth of stuff. I usually pull it my self... write down the #'s and
wave goodbye!!!!!!
Also you suppliers out there.....
you want to compete with the internet......
get a server and spend the time to set up for internet sales for YOUR
customers!!!! Then when you get in in the morning you can start pulling stuff
and have it ready when your bread and butter getts there for it!!!!!!
If you can't beat em join em!!!!! Stop whinning and get with it!!!!!
I buy a bunch of stuff from Grainger..... not because their cheap....
but because I can sit down here at 10 or 11 at night and order and it will show up
UPS in 2 days!!!!! 99.5% of the time.
Oh and buy the way... the LAST thing I want to hear is.....
I can have that for you tomorrow when I NEED that 20.00 ignitor...
TODAY!!!!!!!
Plan ahead...... KEEP them on your shelf!!!!!!
It's been a long couple of weeks..... wheeeeewh got that off of my chest!!!!

Why ???
Why are you annoyed ??? You don't want to stock the material for me! 3/4 of the items I want "NOBODY ELSE USES IT" so they are special order and I have to wait a week or two to come from the distribution center about 20 miles away. When I have to order it I have to buy in box Quantity even if I only need 3, because nobodyelse uses it. If I have to be the warehouse and carry stock on my books then I should be getting distributor pricing. Besides its usually cheaper and available on the net or the Big Box. Oh by the way WHY WOULD THE BIG BOX STOCK IT IF NOBODY ELSE USES IT ???????. Despite the opinion of some counter personnel I may be nuts but I AIN"T stupid all the time. By the way this applies not just to plumbing wholesalers but to electrical and mechanical suppliers too!0 -
Amen to that
If it's not absolutely run-of-the mill (around here at least) the counter men look at me like I just came in from the moon.
More than once I've had to find it for them IN THEIR OWN BOOKS!
"Differential pressure bypass valve" is the best example. "What's that?" I describe it's function. "What's it called?" Differential Pressure Bypass Valve. "Never heard of it." It's made by Braukman (Honeywell)--it's gotta' be in your book. "Can't find it." Let me look.
Find it in the index under "Differential Pressure Bypass."
"What's that thing called again???"0 -
around here the phrase used is
"we've never gotten any call for that"
