Glycol- The Mystery

Finally got through to Interstate Chemical. Didn't get to talk to the chief Guru, but I was right that ethylene and propy have different specific gravities, and when mixed, they cannot tell you to what temperature you are protected to. The readings are erroneus, and the lab boys won't back up what you read. The refractometers are calibrated to the two glycols; not to a mix. Guess that propy is more expensive and the salesman makes more profit on it.(Our fearless leader is on TV, Pushing the war effort to send our boys into battle. Blood for oil;settle a personal vendetta for DAD! Be right back!

Check out the DOW website about glycols at:

    http://www.dow.com/heattrans/info.htm

Download the "HVAC Overview Guide". Lots of plain English answers. Note they distinguish between burst protection and freeze protection... can save you some greenies by using a lessor glycol concetration.

    Hope this helps.
