American Standard service problem SE

I'm stumped. Never had this happen or heard of it. New American Standard AUX model furnace (90% single stage). It's showing an error code of 5 flashes which means that there is a flame sensed when none is present. The problem is that I can't get the furnace out of the lock out mode and get it to retry for me. You're supposed to cycle the power on/off on/off within 30 seconds to reset it. It doesn't happen.

Got any thoughts??

    Reversed polarity?

Just a thought. The five flashes rings a bell.

    Nope

Polarity is OK. Checked it all the way back to the electrical panel. It's got to be some kind of a ground fault because that's how the flame sensor works. Current to ground. I'm at a loss on the failure to reset when you kill the power.

Is the ignitor touching the burner?

I agree, sounds like a bad board or ignitor.

Could be a ground fault. See if you have any potential from equipment case to true earth ground. Maybe they had some yahoo electrician in there over the summer.

And everyone, thanks for the responses. FYI we wound up replacing the circuit board for an immediate fix. I'm still bugged and puzzled though. Bugged that I don't know what caused the board to fail, (maybe it was just a dead board) and puzzled that it would not reset.(maybe that's just the way they are made)

    Anyway thanks
