Spiro Condoms

I was ready to fill a new system.I did the P&H in this home.I typically have been using Taco Vortech eliminators.Nobody local stocks Spiro Vent.I scored some from Wheels @ Avco Supply. So remebering getting squirted from Spiro Vents in the past I was pondering on what to do while swilling my water :)...........the rest is history! So remember to bag it and not take a chance of any unwanted hydronic fluid exchange!

PS a couple of shots of the room!

nice trick you could also put a coupling and plug on the spiro vent

my mistake you would add a coupling and plug if pressure testing with compressed air

    Cheese,

Nice looking job . Very neat! Chris.
  • a coupling and plug

is what i use for the air test, and to prevent spitting when purging, but i leave it on for a couple of days then purge the system again to keep all the flux and crap out of the float mechinism not. 1 problem yet. bob

    Another Spiro idea

Use a fip X pex adapter and run a piece of pex down to the floor and a container for dribble collection. I like the swivel SFI fitting on PAP for ease of removal. anything to keep them from spitting on other components, especially electrical devices in ot's line of sight.

    Nice clean work cheese!

    Nice...Nice...Nice...But...

Cheese, excellent pipe fittin' but it looks like your L.W.C.O. is on the system side of that isolation vlv. What if some knuckle-head isolated the boiler, drained it, and dry fired it... oopps... just trying to make things bullet proof, keep the L.W.C.O. on the boiler side of things.... And again, Top Shelf Work! Scott G.

  • Nice work, Cheese!

Use a proper condom next time; it will self-expand and won't take up as much room; but you can't beat the price on that empty water bottle.

    Thanks Fellers

I want to thank you for the compliments and suggestions. As far as usinga bottle to capture any liquid squirts........make a cut on top of the bottle!!After I taped it on and did my initial purging,I let her run up to temp. All zones running.Of course the Spiro was hissing away.I watched (pleased) and saw the bottle ready to pop like a baked potato!I quickly stuck my utility knife in her and she relaxed.

As far as the LWCO,I understand and will correct my placement next time! Thanks.I'm curious though,Morphious you said you have "seen this".Just wondering where and what the circumstances?I'm sure its possible but I am feeling pretty much like Al's comment.I never see many LWCO's installed asit is.

    LWCO better than none!

A quick solution would be to remove the handle off the valve. I do this to the valve that services the exp. tank, and the fast fill valve, at least it keeps the homeowners from turning it.....thats is unless they really want to mess around with things!! No way to completely protect the curious cat.

    Isolating the Expansion tank

If you look at the tank in my pic you will see a small brass fitting that it is screwed into. That is a check valve made by Watts. It is 1/2"M NPT x 1/2" FM NPT.Its a real nice way to isolate the tank........look MA no handles!
