radiant panel and celotex

I recently attended a training class where the instructor emphatically endorsed using a foil reflective product called celotex for radiant installation in concrete/ joist and dismissed the importance of insulation. Wirsbo does not feel that foil backed materials are of any significance in radiant applications. Hydronics institute specifies foil backed insulation in joist installs. Is there any official data to back up the use of foil.

    my thought....

to wirsbo's stand is because the tubing is touching the foil (in a slab appl.) that it loses it reflective factor that joist bay heating has.In joist bay type you have to leave the air space there if you want it to work properly lest you get conductive heat to the underside (basement).kpc
