radiant flooring PEX tube ????

I am doing some construction and want to add pex tubing to my floor and then put a mud job over it for tile.

My question is, does the size of the tubing matter 7/8, 3/4, 1/2 inch? I will be adding new boiler in the future just want to run tubing now. Also can I put tar paper down, then the mesh and then the tubing? I heard not so good things about tar paper or is that the old style tar paper?

    Depending on loop length

I use 3/8" for mud set jobs, easy to make tight bends, lowest profile, easy to find connection and adapters. I like to run 6" oc in bathrooms for lowest supply temperatures and even heat without stripeing effect. 200 foot loops should be fine. 3/8" pex al pex Kitec works nicely in this application. I have even used 3/8" soft copper coiled tube on a few occasions.

The tile installers have a bunch of products available for underlayment, if tar paper concerns you. The vinyl underlayment products should be fine, in radiant temperature applications. Generally mud and tile jobs run fairly low temperatures, well under a 100 degrees. Heck the tile can get that warm on a sunny day :)

You're gonna love that floor :) Drag all your friends and relatives across er when you get it going, sell some radiant!
